Installing it
Where do I get it?
SupraDraft OCR is coming soon to the Microsoft Store, where it will be a free download. If your computer can’t use the Store (many firms turn it off), or until it is there, download it from our website, open the file, and Windows installs it. Both are the same app and take the same license key; a copy of each on one computer normally counts as two computers. It runs on Windows 10 (version 2004 or later) or Windows 11, on a PC with an Intel or AMD processor; Arm-based PCs are not supported. It needs an internet connection to start the free trial, to enter a license key, and at least once every 30 days to confirm the license.
It says Windows text recognition is not set up.
Windows text recognition comes with a Windows language pack. Add the English language pack in Windows Settings (Time and language, then Language and region), then close SupraDraft OCR and open it again.
Your license and the free trial
How does the free trial start?
The first time SupraDraft OCR starts with an internet connection, a 7-day free trial of the full app begins. There is no form and no card. Each computer gets one trial. A copy from the Microsoft Store and a copy from our website normally count as two computers, so if you install both on the same computer, each copy usually has its own trial. Without a connection, SupraDraft OCR waits and tries again every few minutes. A SupraDraft trial on the same computer is separate and does not use this one up.
What happens when the trial ends?
SupraDraft OCR stops starting new files. A file it is already reading is finished; files still waiting stay in the list and start once you enter a license key. Every searchable copy it already made stays searchable: they are ordinary PDF files.
How do I buy and enter a license?
Choose Buy in SupraDraft OCR; it opens the SupraDraft OCR store page, our own checkout (not the Microsoft Store), in your web browser. Rabbit Hole Technologies, LLC is the seller, and Stripe processes the payment. The license key arrives by email at the address you gave at checkout. In SupraDraft OCR, open Tools › License…, paste the key into the License key box and choose Use this key; SupraDraft OCR then shows it’s licensed on this computer.
Does my SupraDraft key work in SupraDraft OCR?
No. SupraDraft and SupraDraft OCR are separate products, each with its own license key. SupraDraft OCR tells you when a key is for a different product; enter your SupraDraft OCR key, or choose Buy.
Can I use one key on more than one computer?
Yes. One key works on two computers at a time. To move it to a new computer, open Tools › License… on the computer you are leaving, choose Remove this computer, then enter the key on the new one. If the old computer is gone or will not start, enter the key on the new one, then choose Remove other computers there. This removes the key from every other computer using it, not only the old one. A removed computer stops starting new files at its next license check; to use SupraDraft OCR there again, enter the key on it.
Removing frees the place right away for up to three computers a year; after that, a removed computer keeps its place until its current license runs out (at most 30 days) — write to us if you need it sooner.
A copy from the Microsoft Store and a copy from our website on the same computer normally count as two computers.
Does SupraDraft OCR work offline?
Yes, for up to 30 days at a time. It needs an internet connection to start the trial, to enter a license key or remove a computer, and to confirm your license at least once every 30 days; when it’s online it renews quietly about once a week. Reading pages never needs the internet.
Our firewall blocks it. What should IT allow?
SupraDraft OCR’s license check goes to license.rabbitholetechnologies.ai on port 443 (HTTPS), and so does a problem report you choose to send. A copy downloaded from our website also checks downloads.rabbithole-technologies.com (HTTPS) for updates, and a copy from the Microsoft Store checks the Microsoft Store for updates. Ask IT to allow them. Until license.rabbitholetechnologies.ai is allowed, SupraDraft OCR can’t start the trial, accept a license key, remove a computer or confirm a license.
It says my key is already in use on as many computers as it allows.
Each key works on two computers at a time. On a computer you no longer need, choose Remove this computer, then enter the key on this one. Or, on this one, choose Remove other computers: it removes the key from every other computer, so enter it again on any of those you still use. Removing frees the place right away for up to three computers a year; after that, a removed computer keeps its place until its current license runs out (at most 30 days), and the License window shows the date — write to us if you need it sooner.
It says it needs the internet to start my free trial or confirm my license.
It has no license it can use right now (for example on its first start, or after 30 days with no check) and it couldn’t reach the license server, usually because the computer is offline or a firewall is in the way. Until it does, it starts no new files. Connect to the internet, then open Tools › License… and choose Check now; it also tries again every few minutes on its own. If your network blocks it, ask whoever runs it to allow license.rabbitholetechnologies.ai.
It says License not verified, or that it cannot reach its license server to renew.
Everything keeps working. A license confirmed online lasts 30 days without a check, and SupraDraft OCR renews it about once a week. If it can’t renew, it shows License not verified in the last week; rest the pointer on those words (or use Narrator) to see the number of days left. Connect to the internet before then and it renews on its own.
I lost the email with my license key.
The key email comes from admin@rabbithole-technologies.com, so check your spam or junk folder first. If it’s gone, write to admin@rabbithole-technologies.com from the email address you used at checkout, and we’ll send the same key again to that address.
Common questions
Where do the searchable copies go?
Beside the original, with _searchable.pdf at the end of the name: Lease.pdf becomes Lease_searchable.pdf. A picture (TIFF, JPEG or PNG) becomes a new PDF named the same way. If that name is taken, a number is added (up to 99); past that no copy is saved and the file shows Could not finish; an existing file is never overwritten. To save the copies somewhere else, choose a folder in Tools › Settings. Your original is never changed.
There is a file ending in .partial next to my PDF.
That is a searchable copy that is not finished yet. If SupraDraft OCR was stopped part-way, for example by a power cut, it normally deletes that file the next time it starts, and you can also delete it yourself.
It asks me about a signed PDF.
SupraDraft OCR asks before it adds searchable text to a copy of a PDF that carries a digital signature or certification, because signature checkers will show that copy as changed after signing. Your original, signature and all, is never changed. Choose Yes to make the searchable copy, or No to leave the file alone. A file you answered No to stays in the list, and SupraDraft OCR asks about it again the next time it starts, until you choose Clear finished. To make a copy later, choose Yes when it asks again, or add the file again and choose Yes.
What can I change in Settings?
In Tools › Settings you choose where searchable copies are saved: Beside each original, or In this folder.
Make files smaller is on unless you turn it off. Where it can, it saves scanned files in less space.
Smallest files is off unless you turn it on, and works only while Make files smaller is on. It saves the most space, and it can change how a page looks: some pages that hold only text are saved in black and white.
Skip pages that already have searchable text is off unless you turn it on, so every page is read. Turn it on to save time on files that were already run through OCR.
Does it send my files anywhere?
No. Pages are read on your computer, and nothing is sent to an online OCR service. Over the internet SupraDraft OCR sends its license check, its update checks and, only if you choose to send one, a problem report; the privacy policy lists what each holds.
How do I update it?
Choose Help › Check for updates. A copy from the Microsoft Store is kept up to date by the Store. A copy downloaded from our website also looks for a newer version when it starts, about once a week (if a check cannot be completed, it tries again the next time it starts), and asks you before it installs one.
How do I report a problem?
Choose Help › Report a problem. After a crash, SupraDraft OCR offers the same. It tells you what the report holds, and View report shows it exactly as it would be sent. A report holds the version of SupraDraft OCR and of Windows, where your copy came from, the kind of error and, as codes, where in the program it happened, and the last part of SupraDraft OCR’s log; it never holds a file or folder name, anything your files say, the license key or the computer code. It is sent only if you choose Send. If you write to us about it, include the report number it shows.
How do I uninstall it?
Remove it like any Store app, in Settings › Apps. Windows also removes SupraDraft OCR’s private app-data folder and everything in it, including the license file, your settings, the list of files you added and the log. The searchable copies stay where they were saved, and so does any unfinished file ending in .partial left behind when SupraDraft OCR was stopped part-way; you can delete such a file yourself. Uninstalling does not free the key’s place: if you are moving to another computer, choose Remove this computer in Tools › License… before you uninstall, or choose Remove other computers on the new computer (it removes the key from every other computer, so enter the key again on any other computer you still use). Reinstalling on the same computer from the same place as before (the Microsoft Store, or our website) does not start a new trial, and if you did not choose Remove this computer, your key takes back the same place when you enter it again. A copy from the other place normally counts as another computer: it usually has a trial of its own and, once you enter your key, takes a place of its own, so if you are switching, choose Remove this computer before you uninstall. Either way, uninstalling removes the key from that computer, so enter it again after you reinstall.
